Settling in in Bang Sapan Noi

My room at the Suan Anan resort in Bang Sapan Noi. My residence for the next 5-6 moths.

This evening I took a short stroll on the beach here in Bangsapan Noi. My first day here, just 5 days ago, the beach was littered with heaps of trash for as far as I walked. Today, there was significantly less.  There wasn’t a soul in sight. It’s so nice to be somewhere so quiet.

Bangsapan Noi is a small town about 2 hours south of Hua Hin and 4 and a half hours south of Bangkok. I’ve come here to teach English at a private school. My first couple of days settling in to my surroundings was rough. I can’t communicate with the operators of the resort I’m living at so ordering food was a challenge. I couldn’t connect to the internet for the first few days which denied me the comforting and encouraging words of friends and family back home. I also had no one to simply complain to. Sometimes you just need to complain. I was confused, sick and uncomfortable, but this phase has slowly dissipated. My first few days at school were similar. Day 1, I figured out I do not get my own classroom as originally discussed on my initial visit to Bangsapan Noi. I was disappointed but now I’m perfectly fine with it. I like my current set up. I do however have a heavy class load and a wide range of ages. I teach Kindergarten through 6th grade. It makes for a lot of lesson planning every night.

Now that I’ve started to settle in, I think I’m absolutely going to enjoy my time here. I look forward to getting to know my resort “family” better. They have been so friendly and accommodating. I hope when the time comes for me to leave that I can do something nice for them to show my gratitude. Here’s to hoping I can learn more Thai so we can communicate better!

~Cheers

  2. Aww your place is adorable. I’m glad you’re settling in. Sorry you had a rough beginning. Are you capable of Skyping now?

Hey, thanks! Yes, I am 🙂 My internet connection has been strong the last two nights so it’s looking like things should be ok. I just need to learn how to minimize how much time every night I spend on lesson planning. I need to get quicker! With day light savings, you are now 15 hours behind. We’ll have to set a time soon 🙂

  3. Your place looks very remote and peaceful. I hope you are enjoying your adventure. maybe even do some yoga!

Thanks Angela! It is very remote. For now, I don’t have a way of getting around town so I’ve become a bit of a home body. I’ve never been great at yoga but I did do a few poses on the beach the other day! 😀
